These conditions coupled with the Santa Ana winds helped the LA wildfires spread rapidly. According to a new study released by World Weather Attribution, the recent fires were about 35% more likely due to human-made warming, which is primarily driven by the burning of fossil fuels.

Climate change doesn’t ignite wildfires but it makes them more likely to happen. We’re coming off the hottest year in recorded history, which is prolonging dry seasons and drought. In California, climate change led to record dry conditions and increased the number of fire-prone days.
