My undergrad degree is in chemistry, so I wasn't guessing. This is a common lab experiment in 1st yr college chem classes.

Not to mention that: 1) there would be many humidifier deaths in your scenario, and 2) a Bic lighter burns the same color outside when the humidity is 10% vs. when it is 70%.

Utterly unconscionable. I hope this family's punitive damages recovery is through the roof...far more than what the insurance provider saved.

Or use distilled water in the humidifier. The flame color here is due to minerals in tap water.
