Exciting day with a new #royalcam #albatross family selected for the year ahead - WYL & BOK nesting at Plateau.

Coincidentally had two adorable little albie plushies make the trek from NZ to my desk today, a wonderful way to mark the occasion!

Wonderful to hear that SSTrig fledged today!
Only discovered the livestream at the start of the year and became absolutely enamoured seeing the parents GLG and RLK caring for the tiny little chick. There were so many adorable moments as she grew up, going from a […]

My takeaway: Satellite launches are undoing the recovery of the ozone layer that should be happening now that CFCs are banned. And this study doesn't even take into account metal deposition from reentries, which might be even worse!

To celebrate TDoV I thought it might be nice to share my own transition timeline as a nonbinary person.
It's been fun putting the photos together and seeing just how non-linear it's been. There were some fairly major swings at the start and though they settled […]

Check out this huge dyke!

Cutting right through the permian-era mudstone of the coastline, the contact point is absolutely fascinating with a chilled margin, bleaching and uplift of the mud adjacent to the intrusion. (If you look closely, you might even be […]

AINSE PGRA scholarship applications are now open. I was lucky enough to get a PGRA during my PhD (and, later, an ECRG during my last postdoc), and the support was invaluable. Highly recommend applying!

More adventures in geology! Visited a site down near Ulladulla on the NSW south coast - near the edge of the Sydney Basin.
The Permian-era shales outcrop all along the coastline and are just full of spectacular marine fossils!
I'll do a write-up on the site […]

Some more rocks! This time from the Shorncliffe Geological Site in Brisbane.

Absolutely gorgeous fault line running through so many distinct layers - especially love the delicate warping, you can still see some root trace fossils directly adjacent to the fault.

I hope I never get too jaded to celebrate my friends. Academia can be tough, and competitive, and sometimes you find yourself competing with friends (sucks), but at the end of the day it's just work. Good friends are way more important.
