Today is #WorldChagasDay - termed as a “silent and silenced disease” - infected majority have no symptoms or extremely mild symptoms, yet it is a potentially life-threatening disease.

How is Chagas disease transmission- by triatomine bugs, by contaminated food, by blood transfusion or organ transplant, from mother to child in pregnancy. Symptoms are most often non-existent or mild and unspecific. The first visible signs can include: skin lesions, purplish swelling of an eyelid, fever, difficulty breathing, abdominal or chest pain.

A reminder to anyone working on #vector biology #Parasitology #genomes - #NIAID will shut the genome database. This is sad&seems so badly judged considering the rise in vectorborne outbreaks, it may well endanger much of the innovative #research. Download any data you need before the 14th September
