Last week, one of my students used the word 'fanfiction' to refer to postcolonial writings that write back to empire and retell colonial narratives (a la Wide Sargasso Sea). I have been unwell ever since.

Who owns data about Black history? Black culture? Did you ever ask? We've seen many Black DH projects by now, including some Really Big OnesTM. Who owns that data? Is it white people? Nahhh. Can't be. What about commercial collections like Proquest's, Readex's? Who dis?
