Birthday swag (by @jonnelledge.bsky.social). Let's see how many borders I get through while waiting here at the hospital.

1) Meanwhile, over on the Hell-Site, Matt Goodwin is presenting another chapter of How to Lie with Statistics:

I can only assume that MG is saying here that 42.3% of Bangladeshi people in prison are there because they committed sex offences?

Another Brexit benefit: Taking back control of borders between different parts of our country.

Drs 2, 10*, and 4 a few years ago. (IIRC you had one of the blue ones last time I was there).

Seems to be Czech based (but hard to say for sure). It's a curious hybrid of fake news, bait and switch, advertorial, and use of your name to con people into clicking on dodgy links:

Hi Martin. Hope you had a good break. Are you aware of this scam which uses your image and popped up on my wife's Facebook Account yesterday:

I can send you the URL if you wish but don't want to make it public here.

This, from Dunty, is brilliant! 😂

.... but in defence of Autumn, here's my grandson crunching leaves with his wellington boots:

1) This in @financialtimes.com Weekend is a bit weird:

"Monomers such as sugars, amino acids, fatty acids and nucleotides are small molecules that bind together to make more complex structures such as proteins."

You guys (comparing/contrasting these guys) reminded me of this statue from GDR times. Why is FE standing and KM sitting? There were jokes at the time this appeared - even in the GDR MSM [sic]. Whoever made this must have been trying to say something?

We finally got to go and look around the Brontës' birthplace. Fireplace is original! Amazingly knowledgeable people (all volunteers) running the place and amazing what they've managed to restore or recreate.

... though I bristle a bit at the use of "skinhead" as a synonym for "racist thug" - by Doran and Ian, and people they quote. It's all a bit more complicated than that:
("Skinheads" would make a good Origin Story when I think about it.)

1) August 9 @newscientist.com had rather too much vague twaddle-bollocks if you ask me, but this excellent letter:

1) Had a promo email from Uber Eats

So we clicked on "Order now" and ordered from the list of restaurants that appeared. But it seems that the 40%/£12 discount doesn't apply to the restaurants in the list that this button takes you to - though the app doesn't tell you this. 🤬

Apropos of nowt you've just said (though I applaud that too :-), I recently learned that The Brontës' birthplace in Thornton has been acquired by a bunch of enthusiasts who are turning it into a museum (though it's not open to the public yet AFAIK). Thought you might possibly be interested.

6) But it's not just the science which is all over the place. The entire report is riddled with logical inconsistency and confusion. I think my "favourite" passage is this one:

I think yours is one of the Peter Cushing DALEKs? (He did live by the seaside - in Whitstable!)
