But even if we stick to line services, the improvements we can achieve with the components that are currently developed by the Boring Company and Tesla are huge.

My personal opinion would be that sorting individual passengers with a good signage system while walking through a station is a lot more efficient than doing so with humongous traffic junctions. That's why I still believe in the "Underground" solution.

Take the internet for comparison: glass fiber is the easy part. The critical component that makes the system work are the routers. A lot of complexity has been solved in creating efficient routers, that's what makes the internet such a great system.

...whether you do the "sorting" with individual passengers on stations, or you do it with passengers encapsulated in their vehicles, you will need provisions for that.

The challenge of a "car" system is not in the lanes, it's in the intersections and the junctions.
