Not easy to find Kernel magazine in Turin. But got it shipped overseas and it’s worth it. No better read on the intersection of tech and society. (h/t @kuppermann.xyz )

Robert Longo's video for "Bizarre Love Triangle" by New Order remains a great piece of 1980s contemporary art and really captures a moment of time in our burgeoning information society. www.robertlongo.com/films/neword...

Last week I watched a city burn from a rooftop in Kathmandu.

Here are my reflections on what sparked a revolution: a government social-media ban, rage at corruption, and the unchecked power of global tech.

#Kathamndu protests have spread to Patan-Lalitpur. Here’s the scene outside my office.

After killing 19 protesters yesterday, the Prime Minister refuses to resign. So the streets remain dangerous today.

Can software express critical reflections on its own nature in the same way post-modern architecture does?

I don't have the answers, but I wrote a long text with some early thoughts: tomasp.net/architecture/

Same goes for Benjamin Franklin, btw, who changed his variolation skeptic ways after losing a child to smallpox. (variolation was imperfect, with a ~2% mortality rate, though mortality from natural infections with smallpox was around 14.6%)

It’s a computational notebook, where all cells are running all the time. Fascinatingly, the UI is the code, adorned with small widgets. I think legibility could be improved for other users, but this points to possibilities in other domains.
