Anyway, at least I get to hear it play the Leisure Suit Larry theme tune.

Thanks Jason!

Doesn’t look too bad behind me either!

That's a good point, and the reason so few charity shops sell electronic goods. Everything has to be PAT tested.

Thanks for sharing. It's so wasteful that the recycling centres don't let you re-use things. Maybe it's a data protection thing? Everything's a computer nowadays.

(but obviously still good for salvaging parts!)

It's risky (the panel might look fine but shorting out), but surprisingly easy to fix these if the panel is good. Any panel damage is an automatic write-off.

Very much so, thanks!

Bonus post.

Words cannot describe how good an OLED screen looks. A huge upgrade from my previous edge-lit 50" Samsung.

And here she is in the living room. Cable management done and hooked up to the sound bar.

BOOM!

We have a fully working 55" LG OLED TV.

So, I'm £170 all in for this ~£800 TV, and I have additional working power and main boards to flog on eBay, so that's maybe around £80 to £100 I can still recoup. What a result.

Replacing the mainboard had absolutely no effect.

At this point, fooled by proclamations on the internet that "99% of the time the T-Con is fine", I'm trying various combinations of the power board and main board, but I'm making zero progress.

So, it's finally time to try the T-Con...

The service manual says to replace the mainboard at this point, but other evidence (ahem, YouTube videos) points to the T-Con.

I take the plunge and buy the same TV again. Listed for £250 on eBay, the seller accepts £100. The screen is smashed, but all the boards apparently in working order.

Now I'm watching a lot of OLED repair videos on YouTube, and my confidence actually drops as there's evidence of TVs not working even after all the boards are replaced.

I find a service manual for a similar LG OLED, which lists all the voltages. My power board seems to be fully functional.

Popping off the back cover is surprisingly easy. Five screws and some really well designed non-breakable clips hold it all together.

Initial inspection of the power board, main board and T-Con reveals absolutely nothing. Everything looks as it should.

Great choice on the colour.

I have to admit that I don't understand the fascination with overclocking old computers. We *had* to do this back in the day because we were too poor to buy a faster CPU/more RAM/whatever.
