3/3 The exhibition also seeks to convey the original dimensions of Rembrandt's 1656 painting The Anatomy Lesson of Dr. Deijman, which has only survived in fragments. The work is now also part of the Amsterdam Museum's collection.

2/3 The unvarnished glimpses into the organization of poorhouses, correctional institutions, and orphanages are moving, thanks to numerous loans from Amsterdam Museum. Particularly striking are the depictions of Amsterdam’s gallows field and the the executed murderess Elsje Christiaens.

No less fascinating are Harry Clarke's illustrations for the fairy tales of Hans Christian Andersen, here an engraving for "The Little Mermaid" from 1916. He also became well known for his stained glass work. Clarke died of tuberculosis in 1931 at the age of just 41.

With his illustrations for the works of E. A. Poe, the Irish artist Harry Clarke created visual counterparts to Poe’s literary visions of horror. Clarke was born in Dublin 136 years ago today. Happy Birthday! Among his most striking works is his depiction of Poe’s short story "The Premature Burial".

"Corps et âmes" at the Pinault Collection in Paris explores the human body from a variety of perspectives. The superbly curated exhibition presents works by Kara Walker, Kerry James Marshall and LaToya Ruby Frazier, among others. Highlight of the exhibition is a video installation by Arthur Jafa.

At the last minute: On Tuesday, the Centre Pompidou's permanent exhibition closes its doors for five years. At the weekend there was one last chance to explore the wonderful collection. The view over Paris is free. A bientôt!

Among the highlights of the exhibition are early frontispiece designs by Félix Bracquemond and Félicien Rops for Charles Baudelaire’s "Les Fleurs du Mal". First published and censored in 1857, this masterpiece serves as the foundation for the "Evil Flowers" on display. 🖤🥀💀
