I'm just a heartbroken AngelDust fan
(I didn't pay attention to the formatting the first time, so I'm re-uploading.)
Most people use drugs to relax or for the pleasure they experience. It's unclear why AngelDust used drugs during his human life. But wouldn't living in a gangster family involve similar pressures? If he continued to use drugs to relieve the pressure of gang life, then how much unimaginable pressure did Angel Dust endure before dying of an overdose? AngelDust loved his work in Hell, believing it would lead to a life different from his past. However, the reality was that he was bound by a soul contract with Valentino and subjected to continuous, involuntary abuse and rape. While the contract protected AngelDust from Valentino's coercion outside the studio, allowing him to alleviate the mental and physical harm inflicted by Valentino in his own way, when there was work to be done, AngelDust had to rush to the studio. So, what's the difference between this and AngelDust's past life in a gangster family? "AngelDust's soul contract with Valentino" is like "an inescapable gangster life in his human days." He would constantly use drugs to numb himself, either to deceive or relax. In other words, every day he spends in hell is a microcosm of his human life. Except in hell, where he won't die from a drug overdose and won't find release. In this horrific situation, where it felt like dying every single day, the Hazbin Hotel appeared, and Charlie accepted AngelDust. AngelDust liked staying at the Hazbin Hotel, even when he felt unsuitable for redemption, he would still return. He could be himself there, comfortably relaxing without relying on drugs. The effects might not be immediate, but with the help of Charlie and the others, he might slowly be able to confront the past he had been avoiding. I admit that, whether AngelDust likes it or not, he has to face the pressure from his past. He can't keep using drugs to pretend nothing happened, to pretend the root of his pain doesn't exist. But the writers chose the cruelest method: Vox's hypnosis. This destroyed everything, making him believe he wasn't worthy of redemption, that he didn't even deserve to be himself. This plunged AngelDust into severe self-doubt. Don't forget he already suffers from PTSD. Vox hypnotized AngelDust only because he needed: 1. Information from the Hazbin Hotel 2. The speech at the beginning of S2E7 But these plot points could have been presented in other ways. In other words, Vox hypnotizing AngelDust was optional. And the hypnosis causing AngelDust's breakdown was merely for plot development, to introduce his backstory later. AngelDust's backstory could also have been presented in other ways. Why make a desperate soul feel utterly worthless again? Why leave him so helpless and like a walking corpse? Why resort to such an extreme method? I know the final question and the claim that "there are other ways to present it" are just being unreasonable. I know the writers are under a lot of pressure to wow fans who have waited a long time and have different interests. I know AngelDust is a tragic character in the show; painful memories can deepen a person's depth and make them more compelling. But it also depends on whether he still wants to live. I don't know how AngelDust will face what will happen next. He doesn't even dare to face himself now. I know this is a fictional character, a fictional world, and a fictional story, but AngelDust's ending in Season 2 was really upsetting. Sorry for posting some strange thoughts. I couldn't find any other way to cheer myself up, so I just typed out my feelings to express them. I have considered listening to AngelDust's songs, but my understanding is: 1. In the song "Poison," it's the euphoric and delirious effects of drugs, along with his own passion for self-expression, that allows AngelDust to accept anything Valentino does to him during his drug-induced high. But when the effects of the drugs wore off, AngelDust learned what had been done to him again, and he broke down in tears. 2. In the song "Losing Streak," AngelDust manages to showcase himself without the pressure of Valentino. His stunning makeup and costumes, along with the captivating vocals of the AngelDust voice actor, are truly mesmerizing. After listening to it once, I played it on repeat for the next three days. But the more I listened, the more distressed I became because I knew what would happen to AngelDust afterward. And what happened would take a very long time to know the outcome.
