Behind door number 2 of the Scarred For Life advent calendar... it's the atmospheric and somewhat creepy title sequence to ITV's 'get kids reading' show THE BOOK TOWER (Tom Baker-era)!

KEEP OUT (1972): A masterclass in shocking minimalism, this 15 second PIF warning kids of the dangers of messing about by train tracks leaves its horrors to the imagination. I have vivid memories of this one popping up during kid's shows on ITV!

Happy 50th birthday, Protect and Survive! A booklet full of bogus advice and a PIF series that was thankfully never shown (if it had, we'd have been hurtling towards a nuclear war), it still holds a special place in our hearts...

Gronda! Gronda! THE ADVENTURE GAME (1980) saw celebs try to escape from the planet Arg. Each episode culminated with the Vortex, a pulsating column of light which 'evaporated' the likes of Bonnie Langford and Richard Stilgoe. Don't worry, kids, they're not dead. Doogy Rev!

NOBODY'S HOUSE (1976): Children's comedy drama from ITV about a family who moves into a haunted antiques shop. The ghost in question is 'Nobody', a 14-year-old Victorian orphan who died of the plague in the building's basement, back when it was a workhouse. It's a comedy, honest!

RAVEN (1977): HTV's brilliant Arthurian Folk Horror eco-drama for kids starring Phil (Quadrophenia) Daniels as a troubled borstal boy who may be the reincarnation of King Arthur. Nuclear anxiety, stone circles, and New Age mysticism abound!
