I'm currently reading two books right now.

While I do not have character art yet, mood boards and pinterest boards are fun to collect! I wanted to capture Y2K pastels, mix in J-pop vibes with what was going on with pop in the late 90s / early 00s. I wanted to capture sounds and scents.

Early 2020s when I was like a lead Cenobite or something. I used to dress in retro inspired outfits but it got too much. I’m happier in cardigans and cozy now that I stopped being a people pleaser.

There’s a lot of talk about Sabrina Carpenter’s outfit on SNL being cultural appropriation. IMO, I like the concept but it needed better art direction. Instead of forgetting to wear gi pants, I’m thinking a bedazzled and glittery version of this particular shinobi outfit.

I can do without crab mentality in creative spaces. Crab mentality has gatekept pinoys from reaching success. There's a lot of favoritism and nepotism within Filipino culture, and I'm glad it's being called out.

And I think it's ok to have a complicated relationship with Miss Saigon. It did launch many Filipino American careers. I was even trained in musical theater to be able to handle the parts Lea Salonga was cast for. I'm happy that more pinoys are breaking barriers.

I was introduced to Lea Salonga by way of Aladdin. The only clip I saw of her was in the recording studio. It was not until I was familiarized with Miss Saigon at the inappropriate age of 10.

There was a lot I could have mentioned here, but Voltes V, though a Japanese anime, is highly regarded in Filipino culture and also an anti-dictator symbol.

My pathway to becoming an author is not direct. I wanted to take creative writing classes in college, but I didn't like the professor. So I took Asian American Studies instead - I learned a lot...even this and that about pop culture!
