Farewell to the electronic genius Dave Ball (1959-2025) whose pop music with Soft Cell defined an era, and launched alt dance with The Grid. His Strict Tempo (1983) solo album remains an all time fave of mine too.

Who else remembers the 'future' of technology, where you would call the operator and leave a telephone number or a coded message (helpful suggestions from Mercury at the time included 1664 - fancy a beer? and 69 for a hot date!!). Amazing!

For those look for some truly wild and wonderful exploratory sounds, this 4CD boxset with booklet is a gem. It's curated by Bill Perrine who wrote the most illuminating Alien Territory: Radical, Experimental, & Irrelevant Music In 1970s San Diego. A gem!
