TL;DR: I got scammed for ~$10,000. Trusted the wrong people who promised solutions, and yeah… lessons learned.

Could I name and shame them? Sure.

Oh yeah. My ex wife had mine when we were married but I got them back when I asked the judges nicely for them.
But then 2 years ago a girl ( I hope ) scammed me out of 20,000$ and I almost lost my family. So I have been kicked.

Different risk profiles is fine — mine: if someone in need has a vouch from someone I respect & if I've got funds, I don't need to know them directly; the risk w/these donations particular are potentially worse than being scammed, and that's why I had questions about vettings previously.
