i stop short of calling him a self insert, because hes not and that's something i have no interest in making. but he is a character i can put a lot of my personal feelings and aspirations into, and that makes him really special

has been super cathartic. i know a lot of people don't like the catholic ishgard read and i can fully understand why, but being able to delve into that has allowed me to put a lot of myself into a character. a lot that i don't really put out into the world

i have my own very private and personal relationship with God but one thing that has really helped me feel a little more connected to my roots is having an oc like rené. exploring a character who is so dedicated and faithful, but struggles with his own identity and fear of rejection

do i have issues with catholicism? absolutely! so many! i don't go to church because i know my identity and my lifestyle are not accepted. but i have my own relationship to my faith and i don't think i need to abandon it altogether in order to feel fulfilled

if i crave faith and community and like. i didn't really have the words to explain and i kind of still don't but i was raised catholic, my background has always been catholic, my heritage on both sides is irish catholic and french catholic. being catholic is a part of my personal identity
