12 years ago, The Loop launched the 1st lab onsite in a UK nightclub to test drugs for harm reduction purposes.

The Loop is working across the world, in both the UK & AU, & still partnering with The Warehouse Project, one of the world’s premier dance clubs to help keep clubbers safe.

Not much known about this substance but has been implicated fatalities.

Thorough assessment of 3’,4’-Methylenedioxy-α-pyrrolidinohexiophenone (MDPHP; ‘Monkey Dust’) and other synthetic cathinones under the Misuse of Drugs Act 1971. Provides robust arguments for why reclassification to Class A was not recommended.

The Loop has delivered our first year of regular city centre drug checking. We are planning, as we look ahead to 2025, to build upon and expand this valuable harm reduction intervention across the United Kingdom. Drug checking becomes ever more important as the UK drugs market changes and evolves.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO CITY CENTRE DRUG CHECKING SERVICES IN THE UK! We delivered 12 sessions & tested 238 different submissions from members of the public. Thank you to all those who have used the service & worked with us to help reduce harms over this past year. When do we operate? Every last Saturday of the month, 12-7pm. Next session 22nd February. Where? Bristol Drugs Project, 11 Brunswick Square, Bristol, BS2 8PE WHY USE DRUG CHECKING? You can submit a substance of concern for testing by The Loop chemists You can have an open, honest & anonymous conversation with The Loop healthcare team about drugs & your wider health & wellbeing You can talk with a healthcare professional about your submission & the latest trends in the UK drugs market relevant to you Currently there are particular concerns about high strength opioids in circulation in the UK. When you visit The Loop drug checking service, you can get free naloxone & training in its use. Naloxone is a life saving medication which can reverse an opioid overdose. FINDINGS FROM 2024 MDMA pill strength was high & highly variable, ranging from 85-315mg (~3x an average adult dose) Spice was identified in products packaged & sold as THC vapes We found consistently high strength cocaine & ketamine We tested a submission intentionally bought as, & confirmed by testing to be, a nitazene So far, xylazine has not been identified in any ketamine samples Several submissions bought and packaged as a specific benzodiazepine were found to contain a different type of benzodiazepine. SUBSTANCES TESTED MDMA Spice Oxycodone Heroin THC Trenbolone Enanthate Benzodiazepines Cocaine Caffeine Ketamine 2C-B Amphetamine MDAI Mephedrone Paracetamol Methamphetamine DMT Noscapine 4-AcO-DMT 6-APB 4-AcO-MET LSD Mescaline Analogue Nitazene Phenacetin MXE Cathinone Pregabalin TFMPP No active component

Planning on dissolving MDMA in your drink?

Be aware of the risks as this has been linked with serious medical incidents across the UK.

If you are planning on taking MDMA, consider alternative modes of intake and be aware of the signs of drug-related emergency.

MDMA dissolved in liquid is likely to take effect more quickly than undissolved MDMA - take this into consideration when pacing yourself. Crystal or pills crushed and poured into liquid may not have fully dissolved, if consumed quickly after mixing. Putting MDMA in liquid does not weaken your dose - go slow, stay low. Do not share with others - this will help you assess how much you are taking. Without testing your MDMA to find out the strength beforehand, you cannot know the actual dose you are dissolving in your drink. Strength of both crystal and pills varies a lot.This means that you cannot accurately dose by volume. If you do not let it fully dissolve, the sips at the bottom of your drink could be of higher concentration, which could lead you to take MDMA more rapidly than intended, particularly if you finish a drink or use a straw. Image of cola and MDMA powder. It can be hard to know if something has fully dissolved. Make sure that it is finely crushed before you dissolve it. Shake or stir to give it the best chance to dissolve. Make sure you keep it separate from other drinks consumed around you to avoid accidental spiking, marking the bottle/glass. Stay hydrated with a non-intoxicating drink to help avoid overconsumption. Wait at least 90 minutes before considering redosing - add a low dose and give it time. Avoid mixing MDMA with other drugs.
