Also, just going to sneakily tag the @rnib.bsky.social to this thread, since the whole issue of PIP is a scary one for many disabled people. (Sorry for making you guys read all this.)

I'll probably email this thread to my local MP again and hope something comes of it.

34/34 Thank you for reading!

Any reshares of this thread are wholly appreciated; as well as any stories others have to share about their experiences.

To my fellow disabled people, remember, that we are stronger than this. If we're loud enough, maybe one day we will be heard. Stay strong and talk to your trusted circle.

not themselves.

Whilst it may be a long shot, I'm very much open to holding dialogue with the Chancellor, local MPs and the Prime Minister. I cannot stand to see injustice being dealt to disabled people for the crime of existing and needing assistance.

disabled people would need to decide on whether to pay for their utility bills, food, medication or other expenses that may incurr with being disabled.

Disabled people shouldn't be punished for simply existing and needing help from the government. The government are there to serve the people-

Why do I say lives?

For many who are severely disabled and will never be suited for work - and for those of us who want to work but are denied the opportunity; PIP is very often our only source of income.

What pays out bills and keeps us fed. What buys out medication. Without PIP, many -

handling being disabled.

Why those in power feel the need to punish those who need help the most, I will never understand. There's no compassion or empathy in politics, and whilst I understand decisions need to be made, it shouldn't come at the cost of the lives of others.

Disabilities can affect everyone from any walk of life. It can happen when you least expect it, and trying to cope with the mental toll it comes with is just as hard as -

You can watch the interview here (as I so handily recorded them and saved them onto Google Drive): drive.google.com/drive/folder...

with how he believes disabled people should have the freedom to work, and that he's for slowly moving them off of benefits, when I've so clearly stated that PIP is a working benefit.

I've even been on the news about this exact issue back in the election campaign. I questioned how no party -

So, why am I typing this very long post about PIP and Wellfare?

It's because I see so many people in the media and in government sorely misunderstanding what PIP is. Even the MP where I used to live doesn't understand it, and whenever I would try to explain it to him, he would just reply -

"But discriminating against disabled people is illegal!"

Whilst this is true in theory, it's still unfortunately all too common. I even worked for a company who said they were a Disability Confidant employmer, but after I left (due to them being inaccessible) the sticker was removed from them

desperately trying to find work, but we're unable to either through the companies not wanting to hire us because of our disabilities; or having worked there and finding that the workplace is completely inaccessible. I've experienced both of these, the former many times unfortunately.

This isn't even a one time issue. If you ask any disabled person you know, you will hear similar stories or worse. It shouldn't be a common occurrence, but unfortunately, ableism is rampant in Job Centres nationwide.

What makes it worse is that those of us who can work (like myself) are -

"You're not like most disabled people, they're all too lazy to work."

Ah yes, because all disabled people are lazy. A patient who is bedridden by cancer with only 3 months to live is lazy because they can't be asked to get out of bed and work in retail, where customers will abuse them for it.

I've heard from other disabled friends, it's still a nightmare.

I remember a work coach once turning to me with a smirk on their face after I had a meeting (due to my workplace being closed for the season) and she "half-complimented" me by saying that, and I quote -

"Why should we pay for you? Why don't you go to work instead and stop being lazy?"

Well, that's the whole point of this topic today.

People are confusing PIP with an out of work benefit such as Universal Credit and the Work Capability Assessment. PIP continues whether the payee is in or out-

references to the hospitals and GPs I'm under.

It's a very thorough application system and if you don't supply any of these documents or evidence, the application is immediately denied. There are no scroungers on PIP, only disabled people who need the money to pay for medication & assistance.

March 12, 2025 at 7:10 PM
It also goes without saying that no PIP application will ever be approved without medical evidence and references from hospitals, therapists or doctors.
