Because the DB considers that to be when a track was added to the collection, during scanning.

All this means less data lost in the event that DB reconstruction from the source files is necessary.

But also my data replication script dumps the DB and stores that in a separate directory.

...and then also preserve the original file modification time, so that my tag addition didn't make the file look like it had just been added to the collection.

Getting *that* right required getting the creation time and modification time, and using the older of the two.

No good ideas about what's happening internally, because running a query at the console containing ORDER BY but no arguments is a parse error.
