Professor of Infectious Disease Dynamics at @lshtm.bsky.social. Developing methods for making sense of outbreak data. Outside of work trying to make sense of the rest of the world.
The final project is to improve real-time estimation of reproduction numbers through better understanding of transmission processes and the drivers that shape them. These estimates can directly inform required control efforts but also be used to monitor changes in transmission.

Another project aims to improve real-time forecasts of infectious disease outbreaks, involving ensemble methods and a variety of models and testing different data sets that can inform them. Crucially, we need to validate predictions to improve them so evaluation is a big part of this project.

On project is to improve our ability to characterise things like reporting delays, incubation periods, generation times etc. in real time, i.e. during ongoing outbreaks. These can inform control options such as contact tracing but this requires fully understanding the variation in observed delays.
