@lewisbaston.bsky.social just came across the passage in Borderlines (awesome book!) introduction, that German would not have a word for crime, rooted in the „transgression“ sense of overstepping a line. „Gesetzesübertretung“ and „Regelüberschreitung“ very much have that root, though.

I wish I had kept this 1997 edition of my WIRED subscription at the time. I remember reading it and finding myself struggling to imagine what an end to this would look like.
