I like to run Tomb of the Hated Pretender as much as Winter's Daughter

on the other hand, the OSR movement has most of its principles around these aspects of the game and can really make them shine

see ItO for example, it's still OSR just being based on these ideas even if it doesn't really refer to any older game directly

we were discussing what things from old D&D was worth saving, these are some

you absolutely can use these techniques in other games, even modern D&D, but the games doesn't give you much to work with

just naming the first things that come to mind
- resource management better focused for "game as survival" play style
- exploration fleshed out with lots of random tables
- greater emphasis on players impact rather than characters
- diy was much more prominent when branding was less important

love the conversion rules page, expecially the right column about attacks, I find it really well written and having explainations and examples behind the suggestions is great

in this sense I believe OSR isn't flawed by definition, the problematic thing is that the definition, as it is, is far too broad and covers everything between your idea and what I'm trying to state. distancing ourselves from bad actors is becoming more and more of a priority

I think we all agree that the later editions of D&D are far off the mark of what older editions like B/X did well, as we can agree that those older versions had their own dose of dark ages ugliness we need to steer clear of

just as the renaissance marked the transition from the middle ages to modernity, OSR(einassance) should be doing that between "old" D&D and the current editions
