Most of the crows I've ever caught in a photograph look like they're deep in thought. Hopefully not murder.

Ready for the oven. Cheese-bread rolls topped with sharp cheddar and a slice of jalapeno. Great fresh, and if any are left, halved and toasted like bagels.

#birds 🪶 Little brown birds.
It's sitting in a wetland swamp in northern California. I believe it's a Savannah sparrow.

Here's the companion to the bluebird I just posted - same location up 8000 feet in the Sierra Nevada (Mt. Lassen). He looks exactly like the House Finches that nest every year in the hollow tops of the gazebo legs in our back yard. We filled them with sand to near the tops, and they're bird hotels.

#birds Question for those more experienced in bird ID. This little fellow, slightly larger than the house finches, is living 8000 feet up Mt. Lassen in northern California. I think its a female or juvenile male western bluebird, but help appreciated.
Definitely not a Twitter - it's in good health.

I'm not the first to suggest it, but it just seems so apt:

Posts archived and all the older ones deleted on the bird app, likes currently being processed there (both using github.com/lucahammer/t...).
Still maintaining a presence there, but leaving mostly scorched ground behind me.

I have a sneaking suspicion that I'm not the only one downloading their data from the "site that may not be named". Two days and counting since my request went in. Very soon, all your posts, media, photos, artwork, etc. are open to their use, especially for training their AI bots. New TOS.

Those acorn woodpeckers are really busy stuffing the holes in the siding with acorns #birds #woodpeckers
November 13, 2024 at 2:07 AM
The acorn woodpeckers have just about destroyed the wooden siding on this structure, converting it into a granary to store their acorns. Unfortunately, there is a space behind the siding, which is gradually filling up with acorns pushed right through.

More to come. My little red-headed friends are stocking their granaries with nice plump acorns for the winter months (which round here are generally mild, and the activity is probably excessive). This one is a traditionalist, unlike some to follow... #birds

Here are some sandhill cranes that came all the way down to visit us in northern California - there were several groups. You can read off the leg rings on the pair. #birds

I can believe it. When these take off startled, it's deafening if you're close. And Canada Geese are probably even louder. #birds

Female Killdeer doing its "my wings are broken" distraction activity to pull my attention from its scrape nest and eggs nearby (CA, USA). I used to see similar distraction activity from Lapwings in the UK - convergent evolution. #birds
