J-E translator of anime (Jellyfish Can't Swim in the Night, Akiba Maid War, Call of the Night), manga (Sheltering Eaves, Is Love the Answer?, Wotakoi), art-related stuff, etc.
Okay that makes sense. Not ideal, obviously, but I guess the Japanese way of always tearing down and building new houses isn’t great either.

Ohh, I didn’t realize that would translate into a housing crisis.

This was definitely my experience when we moved near Toronto for a couple of years. People talked about buying a house like a kind of investment, even suggesting that my husband and I buy for the few years we were there. I was so baffled.

sound of her crying at key points. The character development throughout was great as well, with a shoutout to all the comedic moments, the ever-stunning nightscape, and the surprisingly funny Kabura-Nazuna dynamic once you see the latter as a rebellious teenage daughter.

The sprays are okay but only do so much (at least in my case)!

I would wear jeans all year round regardless of the heat because of that. Mosquitoes are the bane of my existence
Good luck with apartment hunting!

Are we the same person, because we’re also going through all the books with the kids right now.

The one where Rosalyn strikes a deal with Calvin and plays Calvinball, totally getting it on the fly and having a great time might be one of my favorites.

And in the end I got something that I hope brings FirE's lyrics to life in English. Shoutout to fellow Sentai translator Jake Jung for his Twitter thread about translating for Ya Boy Kongming! where he is so open about his process and resources. Thanks Jake!

It took a lot of listening to rap, seeing how lyrics worked, thinking about vocab the hip-hop artist character might use…

The translation obviously had to retain all the right keywords, BUT ALSO rhyme and have some sort of rhythm that’s believable as rap. And believe me, I am no rapper. (some excerpts below)

the idea is to give a general feel of how much that cost would mean to the characters. Of course, it’s a moot point a lot of the time when there’s a guideline to follow, but I wonder about this kind of thing constantly.

and let’s say I’m adding a translation note for that. $2.00 is at least a little closer in feel than $1.36. Do I give a price that reflects a similar value in terms of cost of living, or follow the exchange rate? I’ve been leaning towards the prior, given that

Oh wow, thank you! I’m so glad people seemed to enjoy them. As well as the manga itself, of course.

I'm sorry to butt in on this. I also really struggle with 甘える in general but with 甘やかすone option I've found is to go with "indulge," like "indulge someone's whims/desires," depending on the context.

Uh, yes? Like multiple times a page

Aw, thanks! Yes, that was me. I loved working on this show.

A favorite line from that series was 父上は父上。私は私。
I'm not my father. He can take care of himself.

When a guy was called out for always “doing ore TSUEEE” when gaming with his friends, the one calling him out is not a gamer and knows the term but is not very savvy with the usage. I went with “Yeah, you always ask who our daddies are.” Also got to add a volume-end note to explain Ore TSUEEE

I know! And when she wasn’t singing she talked the whole time. Except for when they did the band introduction. I think that was the only significant (but short) break she got
