"The city of Philadelphia should take the lead and demarcate FDR Park as protected stopover habitat. This would put a halt to further tree clearing."

Toxic. Torrid. Terrible for the environment. Yet it's what the City of Philadelphia wants to inflict on us.

Philadelphia's kids (and adults!) deserve the safest, highest quality facilities available.

Mayor @cherelleparker.bsky.social and Council President Kenyatta Johnson: Playing fields that expose the public to toxic PFAS and other chemicals are simply unacceptable.

*How is this even a question?*

Look for the Conservancy to destroy as much of FDR Park as it can — and then squeeze the city for tens of millions more of our tax dollars, on top of the $50M already pledged in some secret deal.
All so it can put toxic artificial turf where beautiful meadows and heritage trees used to be.

Yes — despite Philadelphia's Tree Plan, the single biggest destroyer of trees in the city is the City.

In FDR Park hundreds of trees are being cleared, as @thephilacitizen.bsky.social reports, to install 32 acres of toxic turf.

If we genuinely want to expand tree canopy in Philadelphia, we need to stop cutting down thousands of trees!
Is any part of this hearing going to address that?

Phila Parks & Rec commission Sue Slawson talks about the importance of trees and how many they've planted.
No mention of how many thousands of trees they are cutting down. phlcouncil.com/watch-city-c...

If Philly wants to increase tree cover, why is it cutting down so many trees? Come to the Philly Tree Plan hearing, 10am to around 2pm. Bring a sign if you can! We’d love to see folks there for all or any part of the session.

The Philly Tree Plan came out in 2023. Now who's the city's No. 1 destroyer of tree canopy? The City itself.

Sign up today to speak out at Council's hearing on the Tree Plan (tomorrow Wed Mar 5 starting 10am). Submit testimony, make a comment or hold a sign!

Here's what the city told DEP it was going to do, compared to what it really plans to do. "Border meadows"? Is that what they're calling artificial turf now?
