Annie Cacciato of Newark, Ohio never smoked, yet died of lung cancer in 2021.

The cause was elevated radon. Newark has the highest concentration of radon nationwide.

Fracking increases cancer and breathing illnesses; diminishes plant, wildlife and fish populations; depletes and contaminates water; and its methane gas emissions trap heat in the atmosphere at a rate 80 times more potent than carbon dioxide-- accelerating climate warming and climate change.

Jockey Hollow is a 3,469-acre wildlife area six miles southwest of Cadiz in Harrison County. The area experienced a decade of surface mining from 1958 to 1968, when 200,000 tons of coal were removed. Volunteers from Save Ohio Parks attended a recent sponsor testimony hearing supporting H.B. 399, which would ban fracking in state parks and Lake Erie. The public is urged to contact the Natural Resources Committee to schedule proponent testimony hearings, not the Senate Energy Committee, which we erroneously reported previously. The legislation is sponsored by Rep. Tristan Rader (D-Lakewood) and Rep. Christine Cockley (D-Columbus).
