And I used the random character approach (via those “strong password generators”) for a little while, but they just made nonsensical passwords that a computer can eventually guess but a human would struggle to remember.

An example:

Start with 3 unrelated words:
— goat, purple, vacuum

Connect them with a symbol, add a number to the beginning and end:
— 5goat$purple$vacuum5

Misspell one word, and capitalize or CAP Lock the typo
— 5goat$PERPOLE$vacuum5

…if u have to write anything, just write the 3 plain words

I’ll agree that it’s vitally important to pick something memorable, but it’s more common to find your password in lists (used for brute force login attacks) than it is to find a pass phrase.
