The France 2 television channel has looked into the recent increased looting of liturgical objects, organized by networks highlighting the work of the Central Criminal Intelligence Service of the National Gendarmerie investigating this scourge.

it's just civil resistance they say. It doesn't damage they say. Tell that to these folks who now have to clean "First Tribute to Christopher Columbus (October 12, 1492)" by José Garnelo y Alda (1892).
Crimes against historical heritage are punishable by imprisonment under the Spanish Penal Code.

Then there is the painting by Rachel Ruysch in the National Museum of Decorative Arts, Buenos Aires that looks a lot like the Abraham Mignon still life being searched for as a World War II era loss by the Dutch Rijksdienst voor het Cultureel Erfgoed which was bought by Kadgien.

Avrich cites experts who suggest that half, or even more than half, of art offered on the secondary market is fake. I don't agree. However, the market's obfuscation and silence as accepted responses to questions concerning the authenticity of an artwork often involves a conspiracy of the willing.
