After a wonderful welcoming & sharing the group headed a little ways back up river for lunch & another celebration ♡ the weather was incredible - all the colors. My heart is full. Please look into Paddle Tribal Waters, Ríos to Rivers, & other groups making paddling accessible to indigenous peoples♡

The Paddle Tribal Waters were very intentional on how they wanted to conclude their journey - they'd be the 1st to go to the ocean, then their instructors, then the visiting paddlers & crew. This is them bolting to jump into the Pacific Ocean. They didnt want anyone to follow - it was their time♡

Got to welcome the Paddle Tribal Waters / Ríos to Rivers & other international participants as they finished the 1st indigenous decent of a ~free flowing Klamath River. 310 miles / 30 days! It concluded yesterday at the estuary & mother ocean. These young river warriors are so incredible. Inspiring♡
Looking upriver from the estuary sand spit as the Paddle Tribal Waters & crew emerged from the mist paddling toward shore. There's over 50 multi-colored hard shell kayaks, two Yurok redwood canoes, & tons of multi-person rafts in formation. The hills of Requa are barely visible through the fog, the river is wide and Steele grey with mist rising off it. Similar view as 1st photo but the boats are almost to shore. The families & friends formed two lines to welcome them onto shore. There are several Yurok boys & girls in regalia. Same upriver view but the fog is lifting & blue skies are peaking through. The 1st group to make land were the Paddle Tribal Waters youth. Their multi-colored kayaks line the shore. They were very intentional in how they wanted to end the journey (more on that in thread). All the family and friends gathered around in a welcoming circle for a prayer, songs, sharing gifts, & introductions from all the participating Tribes - Yurok, Karuk, Hoopa, Klamath, Modoc, Tolowa, Maori, Tribes from Chile, Bolivia, & more. Several tribal flags are flying above the group.
