I thought it was canon now that "James Bond" is a code name like "007," passed down from agent to agent?
Or is that still "just" fancanon?

Every seven years, Clarence Thomas looks in the mirror and remembers he's Black.
If Obergefell goes, Loving v. Virginia follows. Even Thomas knows his fellow MAGAts will aim that gun in his direction next.

A fair number believe - and I've seen folks say this with their whole chests - that a nonsense litany of left-wing celebrities are "on the list." Oprah Winfrey, Brad Pitt, Lady Gaga, George Clooney, Taylor Swift... Sure, gang, right. Trump is innocent, but Swift's a lesbian pedo. Got it.

It's a sad statement on humanity in general, and on America in particular, that when given the greatest tool for knowledge, expression and communication since the printed word, our society used it to stupid ourselves out of existence.

The phrase originated as a sarcastic depiction of an impossible act.
It got co-opted by people who profit from shaming people to try and do impossible things and then failing to accomplish something they couldn't have done to begin with.

Thanks! Yeah, my titles (again, like Harlan's) tend to fall into either short yet evocative phrases ("Echo Chamber," Red Shoes, "Shards," "Johnny Serious") or oblique wordplay that snags attention and sticks in your head ("Buy a Beer for Hank," "Elynne Dragonchild," "The Midnight Rose Bazaar").

Thank you! Harlan Ellison was a foundational influence for me, so I write stories with names like "Valhalla with a Twist of Lethe," "Breaking the Devil's Bread," "I Come to You as Thunder," and "Seven Temples on a Darkling Plan, Near Dusk."

Nature is implacable. Indifferent to our needs and comfort. If you respect that fact and learn how to handle yourself in that environment, you'll be... well, much better off than if you do not. Nature will kill your ass dead if you let it. Then again, "civilization" will, too.

I hiked three weeks on the Appalachian Trail barefoot, and used to wander barefoot through the woods where I grew up. That said, my feet are seriously conditioned to that sort of thing. The average American couldn't just step outside and do it.

And that view worked out so well in 2000, 2016, and 2024, too...

Hearing a family member, who used to be unusually compassionate, say the words "I think anyone who doesn't work should just die" was both disheartening and informative. Disheartening to hear such a transformation, and informative to see how these monsters operate and how efficient they can be.

"We don't do that here"? I hope Jesus was listening (Matthew 25) and taking note of that.

So, then - those Christ-followers with "deeply held Christian beliefs" just acted out the 21st-century version of Christ's Good Samaritan parable?
