It made clear to me that navigation of the web was an obsolete model and that the web was orders of magnitude more useful when it was possible to query it.

I could rely on it when I needed to find a needle in a haystack. If felt like I was searching the complete web as if it were a database. I knew this was the future.

Of course, I already knew the answer. Searching with Google was like searching the actual web. It was fast, accurate and complete. Google search was an order of magnitude better than any other search engine.

When you ask questions of the chat bot, you are making queries against a database just as if you were querying a relational database. Except that you are using a conversational query system they understands natural language.

What it knows comes from data sources. Think of how the information is stored, which is a kind of database showing the relationships between things in the data. It also knows how frequently these things go together in the original source of information.
