ERC postdoc on the ELECT project at University College Dublin. I research the EU's effect on political parties, election campaigns, Irish politics, and UK politics.
Overall, I find that progress towards EU membership reduces the saliency and intensity of these appeals, although this effect is contingent on those neighbouring countries that contain ethnic kin (e.g., the UK for Ireland; Romania, Slovakia, etc. for Hungary) also being members of the EU.
