Just a guy chillin' in a satellite in deep outer space, where I rant about how much I hate streaming and consume a lot of media, mostly video games. I'm also an advocate for Media Preservation.

I cannot wait for The Killer and Hard Boiled. This is so exciting!
Shout! Studios acquires worldwide rights (excluding select Asian territories) to the Golden Princess movie library - "a treasure trove of 156 Hong Kong cinema classics that’s been MIA from Western markets for decades." This includes John Woo films like Hard Boiled, The Killer & more. LINK

The Playstation 5 Pro price is a joke. $700 for something that

1) DOES NOT HAVE A DISK DRIVE
2) Uses AI for its upscaling, which, while not uncommon, is disheartening to see from Sony. Look at some of the AI upscale 4K movies. Not all look good.
3) Doesn't even include a stand

Streaming media continues to be awful. Last time I wrote about why I hate the current plans. This week I wrote about how streaming is actually the enemy to preserving media! Check it out here

Welp it's no secret that I hate streaming. So I took to substack to write down my thoughts. Here's the first post of many!

Why I Hate Streaming Part 1: The Plans
Streaming was supposed to make things more convenient and cheaper to access libraries of shows and movies. But what once started off as a much needed improvement over commercial television has now bec...

But being able to buy media is also not the whole story to preserving it. I think more people should be taught how to rip their bought media to make their own digital files to be viewed anywhere you might want! Kinda takes me back to ripping CD's for your MP3 Player. Damn I'm old eh?

I love buying physical media. I advocate for it. It's the only way studios will let people preserve media. They hat ethat though because it devalues the cost of their subscriptio in their mind. So...that's probably why you don't see as many movies and shows being sold IN physical stores anymore.

Now the solutions consumers have are to buy physical copies of media. This is ideal but it's also not a solution for everyone. It is more costly per item in the short term. There is a physical thing taking up space. But you know what you get instead? The ability to enjoy your media however you want

I hate streaming. It sucks, it's expensive, the libraries are ephemeral, and worst of all consumers own nothing. Somehow studios, I guess, through sheer tenacity has allowed themselves to dictate how and where we watch our content and denied consumers any ability to own their media.
