discussing fact - like diabetes has genetic factors - isn’t medical advice. neither is discussing existing research - which is available to the general public.

or lobbying for increased funding… medicare is an incredibly powerful negotiation tool that the fed has used historically to both encourage and force states to subscribe to certain bills/matters. it’s likely they’d offer to increase funding in exchange for cooperation. elsewhere as they’ve done.

i didn’t discuss removing funding from treatment. yet again that’s not at issue here. all i’m discussing is putting more funding towards preventatives.

largely western medicine is revolutionary and useful. on the other hand we massively overprescribe, improperly diagnose, and mistreat individuals. this isn’t novel information. so yes a focus on prevention is really important given those problems

there’s also nothing to suggest that the change would cause insurance to stop paying for life-saving medication that is medically necessary….

glp1s are not fda approved for treating type 1… that’s not at question here. i’m speaking specifically to preventable conditions. type 1 isn’t preventable. so you’d be correct, diet wouldn’t help with that

you’d be correct at least with regard to some conditions but preventative care including screenings especially for things like cancer is really important for the elderly.

plus contemporary meds like GLP1s are preventative meds that can help reverse pre- and actual diabetes. it can cure insulin resistance, and so much more. contemporary meds aren’t necessarily covered by insurance now without doctors jumping through hoops to get pts access

also, there may be ligament issues, bone density problems, and god knows what that could be causing knee issues. imaging that insurance may otherwise not cover can help prevent future degradation of your knee and prevent worsening problems with it.

to provide an actual answer - diabetes can have genetic components. proper screening - especially as it pertains to insulin resistance to determine how one’s body process carbs and insulin is really important to determining if there are nutritional changes that can help prevent or reverse diabetes
