part d works the same regardless of whether it is through a Medicare advantage plan or stand alone pdp. those rules are the same and handled by the same companies. Rx coverage is completely through insurance companies. your Drs prescribe meds covered by your plan.

Logistically, there are several paths that have been proven to work in other countries. Probably, our first step would be to codify healthcare as a right and stop calling it a handout when used by those of us with lower income.

For those of us getting insurance through our employer, the Medicare advantage programs are soo much better than what we have right now with the exception of part d. In closing, we need to tear down the medical system we have and put me out of a job, but we need to build something usable.

Medigap policies are the other route people look at, but when you average close to 2k/mo in income paying 200/mo on medical and 36/mo to have Rx coverage isn't feasible. Privatization is not the way. We've seen where this goes, but for a lot of us it is the bandaid we can afford. Worse part is,

It comes down to this: the reason that 60% of Medicare recipients are on a Medicare advantage plan is that they can't afford to just have Medicare. Medicare part b is an 80/20 insurance with no maximum out of pocket.

Is a problem. There were several claims in the comments here that were patently false, but they all skirt the actual issue. Bashing those horrible Medicare advantage or part c plans shows a certain privilege.

That we don't understand how our own insurance works. That is a problem because it means we focus our anger in a way that will get dismissed by people that can help because it sounds like we are ignorant and just need to be informed. There are problems. Privatization is a problem. Medicare itself

Ok. We need to stop. Full disclosure, I'm an insurance agent that sells Medicare insurances that tries to advocate for the end of the industry that I work in. Just finished my 2 months of working 100+ hours per week, so this will ramble...having read the comments here, it appears...
