🎧 LISTENING TO - Lion, Witch + Wonder
📚 READING - Catherine Called Birdy by K Cushman
📖 READ - Thomas Cromwell by D MacCulloch
ACOTAR was an absolute slog… ‘Thomas Cromwell’ by Diarmaid MacCulloch on the other hand is quite the read 📖📖📖

Currently slugging my way through ACOTR. I like Feyre, but it feels like a poor knock off of Beauty and the Beast and the same things seem to happen in everyyy chapter. I’ve been assured that it’s the worst one in the series and only makes sense once you’ve read the others, so I shall continue. 📕✨

Ok, IMO Bletchley Park Riddle lacked magic and emotional weight. But it’s a perfect high-interest book for 9-12s. It’s an interactive page-turner and immerses you in war-time Britain… but yes, I didn’t fall in love with the characters or the story and that’s a-okay. WHAT TO READ NEXT…

Finally decided what to read next - gone for the tween thriller, Bletchley Riddle by Ruta Sepetys and Steve Sheinken.

Marriage Portrait is an astounding read. So evocative and absorbing. Only criticism is that Lucre seems far older than a 15 y/o… And now I am not sure what to read next 😱

Pride and Prejudice was a deliciously spiky and exceedingly wholesome read. Should have read it yonks ago. Have moved onto Marriage Portrait by Maggie O’Farrell - enjoying it more than I did Hamnet so far. Perhaps it’s the tiger.

Hyped to be on the reading panel for The Reading Agency… will be helping select children’s books for their Summer Reading Challenge!✨✨✨📚📚 p.s. my whippet is not on panel, but will be assisting me throughout the process (it’s not clear exactly how yet)

Going to read Pride and Prejudice next…. despite being obsessed with the 1995 tv version (basic I know), I’ve never read it. May the literary lords now forgive me of my sins!

Finished Intermezzo. Ivan was such a wonderful character, also ♥️’d the ending and how it captured the nuances of living with complicated relationships, finding beauty in their tensions. But, gotta say, I still prefer R’s previous book - the letters perfectly punctuated her prose and I missed them.

In defence of ‘radical listening’ - an especially timely read in the wake of the cancellation of Short Cuts current.org/2024/11/why-...
Why ‘radical listening’ is key to public radio’s future
"Building radical listening and field recording into our program offerings announces to the audience that we understand our public service role as custodians of culture and media representation."
