A lefty from Ōtepoti/Dunedin. She/her. Just here in case the bird app goes belly-up. I don’t post much but I do like to like.
My guess would be that “literacy & communication” is a separate teaching topic to “maths” and this makes the separation clearer. In other words the stated goal is part of communication teaching and not maths at all.

The last lady I had doing it was so nice - although she would ask me if everything was ok just BEFORE squishing! But everyone who works in there seems to be lovely.

I wonder if she was always like that though? Or whether it is another case of money corrupts.

Only 4 spares?! On my first jury case there was a whole room called, standing room only. Must have been about a dozen rejected before I was the second one chosen. And we all took the responsibility very seriously.

My first thought when I saw it was that these guys should be either fired or fined. But it’s true that they may not be the only ones at fault.

I was stunned it could happen - don’t these guys usually carry some sort of communication devices? And how the heck did they not hear him approach. They didn’t even seem to be running that fast.

So apparently it’s fine for a road to blow out its budget, but Dunedin Hospital can’t be even slightly over. 😢

SO happy that I am on holiday this week and can stay home.

Gen X here - when I was growing up there were tv shows dedicated to showing us the future. They were always optimistic, talking about medical breakthroughs & exciting new technology. I don’t what’s worse - having that optimism and losing it, or being in the later generations who never got it at all.

Beginning a week off so I’m a solid 1. Even have a mug of tea with me.
October 18, 2025 at 10:38 PM
That’s actually quite good, much better than the crap we had to make!

Well of course. That means his children will have pipe cleaners to use for crafts.

Reinforces the assumption that they will be living at home so it won’t be an issue for parents to support them. Problem is, if you are rural or in a small town there won’t be many jobs and now they can’t afford to leave.

So sick of the phrase “welfare trap.” Has anyone actually done a study to see if how many/few long-term beneficiaries have become completely unemployable just because of their time on welfare and no other factors?
October 5, 2025 at 4:23 AM
You know what really is a trap? Having no money, no choices and very little prospect of getting a job.
October 5, 2025 at 4:17 AM
I had this calendar last year, they’re great. 😂
October 2, 2025 at 2:15 AM
A rather cute trap though.

Some cats like to play the long game. 😂

Next time it will be a trap. Which means that it is, in fact, a trap.

Heck, I don’t even let my Sims have the “needs no sleep” trait. I don’t have the energy for their days to be that long.

Perhaps even sadder is the fact that if they survive to return home they often end up receiving none of those things.

Back in the day in NZ, our mailman would return VCR rentals if you put a $2 coin with them. I’ve no idea if this was widespread or just something he did.

Yes it’s basically the American Downton. I very much enjoyed the last season and hope there’ll be more.
