The Pleiades star cluster aka the Seven Sisters aka M45:

444 light years away, its glow can actually be seen with the naked eye if you’re in a dark enough place. Look toward the lower east in the early evening.

Enjoy!

WOW.

I set up the camera to record a time lapse of the incredible northern lights on Nov. 11, 2025.

Nearly 800 frames later, I am seriously blown away.

Enjoy!!!

Here’s my photo of comet C/2025 A6 (Lemmon) using my #astrophotography rig.

It’s visible the early evening to the NW from my yard in Saskatoon. I’m glad I took this; with it not returning for 1,150 years, it’ll be harder to see it once it goes. 😆

California Nebula, about 1000 light years away.

This was fun to capture! My setup fits half of this nebula into one photo at a time. So, I captured each half-image over two nights and then combined the two photos in software.

Enjoy!

The Sadr Region in the constellation Cygnus contains some bright nebulosity that looks especially stunning through a narrowband filter, hydrogen-alpha wavelength.

This is a view from Saskatoon with 3hrs of exposure time. The Sadr star is at the top & is 1800 light years away.

After a few clear nights lately, here’s some more #astrophotography:

Wolf-Rayet 134 and the surrounding nebulosity looks quite neat with 4.5 hours of total exposure time. I especially love the bit of blue in the bubble nebula that’s being lit by the star.

Enjoy!

Supernova remnant from 10-20 thousand years ago:
The Eastern Veil Nebula

About 2400 light years away, I took this image from my back yard in Saskatoon using a dual-band filter to cut through the light pollution.

158 minutes of total exposure time. Enjoy!

The #Aurora is out tonight (Sept. 14)! Here's a long-exposure view from Saskatoon, Saskatchewan.

The most data I’ve ever collected on 1 thing reveals VAST amounts of interstellar dust lit by nearby stars: The Iris Nebula, imaged over 4 nights with ~16hrs of total exposure.

(The extra time 💯 makes a difference. I think there’s definitely an analogy for time spent in prayer…😊)

2.5 million light years away: Andromeda Galaxy
It’s my most detailed version yet, with over 8hrs of exposure time.

According to NASA, our galaxy and Andromeda will collide in approx 4 billion yrs. (Look out! 😁)

I captured this over 2 nights from my back yard in Saskatoon.

Enjoy! #astrophotography

Some more #astrophotography on this Solemnity of the Assumption of Mary:

The famous “Pillars of Creation” in the Eagle Nebula, ~7000 light years away.

My telescope can’t quite get the same detail as Hubble, but I’m pleased with what I got from the back yard in Saskatoon. 😁

The Wizard Nebula (NGC 7380)

8000 light years away from us is another beautiful region of stars and interstellar dust, which I imaged from my back yard in Saskatoon. Enjoy!

I continue to practice my processing skills: here’s another go at the Western Veil nebula, 2400 light years away.

It’s not been possible for me to capture new data lately, but I do have fun learning more about Pixinsight and the RCAstro tools.

Back in Ottawa to work on canon law… and to watch hockey.

(Ok, that last part didn’t specifically involve being in the Ottawa. But the first part does.)

Space dust: This is a photo I took of the Iris Nebula, about 1300 light years away.

Pope St. Gregory II was the Supreme Pontiff when this light was emitted. St. Gregory II, pray for us — and for the upcoming conclave!

The Whirlpool Galaxy is between 24 and 31 million light years distant. We're actually seeing two galaxies interacting, providing a truly fascinating shape.

(As usual, other galaxies appear in the image as well.)

Enjoy!

Saints of God, come to Pope Francis’ aid. Come to meet him, angels of the Lord.
Receive his soul and present him to God the most High.

May Christ, who called you, take you to himself; may angels lead you to Abraham’s side.

Give him eternal rest, O Lord, and may your light shine on him for ever.

The Stella🐶 kept getting into a path of dirt next to the garage.

She also once got onto the roof and I wanted that to not happen again. 😱

The solution: some wood and plastic rolled fencing. Here’s hoping it keeps the teenaged toddler away from these areas!

By the way: See that needlepoint-looking galaxy on the upper/far left of the wider image?

That's galaxy NGC 5422, which is 101 million light years away!!
