Sure, drinks were reason enough for Angel to hang out at any bar. But over time, booze became secondary to the good conversation that Husk offered. And, on nights Angel didn't feel like talking, the silence was comfortable and made him feel less alone. At some time he couldn't quite pinpoint, Angel began to marvel at the swag in Husk's step, the sway of his wings as he expertly tucked them against his back for minimal damage to his surroundings. He adored the concentrated furrow of his brow as he mixed drinks, and the way his tooth poked out from beneath his lip when annoyed. Mostly, it was the times Angel made him laugh that became his favorite. Husk's voice was both a soothing balm and the kind of low rumble that made him shiver. Somewhere from enemies to friends, Angel began to yearn for Husk in a completely new and unfamiliar way. “Hey.” The affection in Angel's tone warmed Husk's heart and belly. He glanced up, unable to tear his eyes away from Angel's beautiful, genuine smile. As four lean, gloved arms folded on the bar with familiar elegance, Husk offered a raised brow in silent query. “Charlie said to live tonight however we wanted,” Angel offered, his own expression relaxed as a smile reached his eyes. “So pour me a fresh one, and let's get to livin’!” Husk flashed a grin and sauntered away to retrieve the ingredients for a surprise drink he planned for Angel. With his back turned, he missed the dreamy look in his friend’s eyes. Angel propped his cheek on his hand, admiring the way Husk moved with smooth ease. He didn't drop his gaze, even as Husk appeared in front of him to set out a couple of old fashioned tumblers. As he expertly mixed the drinks, Angel cursed in astonishment. “You makin’ me a negroni, Whiskers?” Husk twisted an orange peel over the glass, and silently slid the drink toward Angel with a vague grunt of acknowledgment. Turning the pretty cocktail around in his hands, Angel waited for Husk to pour his own. Loosening his bow tie...
