Activating myself and my community in support of mobility justice + abundant housing. Everyone deserves access to a livable city.
What can decision makers do to prevent these predictable tragedies? Are they willing to listen and learn from advocates? Are they willing to #PrioritizePeople & put #SafetyFirst? Is a system that expects unpaid advocates to hold paid officials accountable fair, just, equitable?

Public messages emphasizes personal responsibility, denying Community of systemic, public-health interventions that save lives & support livability. Wheater a motorist "stayed on scene" or was a "hit-and-run" driver, death is still final. Injuries have long-term impacts on crash victims & families.

Over the weekend in #Denver drivers hit 2 people using a scooter, another driver & 2 people on bikes, including one in West Colfax who was killed. For years, West Colfax community members have been asking (begging?) for traffic calming measures along W14th Ave. For years, they've been denied.

No major reporting organization in the Denver metro area has covered Salih's death with such depth, showing how political decisions often lead to preventable deaths and serious injuries on our public streets. 🥀💔🥀

Watch and tell me what's most likely to "impede the ADA ramp in that location" and "interfere with pedestrian traffic and the traffic light sight triangle."

Salih's ghost bike is interfering with absolutely no one.

When your DOT's policies make it easier to kill someone with a car than to place a ghost bike, they're designed to uphold a cars-first system, regardless of any action plans the DOT claims to pursue, like #VisionZero or #SRTS or #Climate.

With permission from Salih's family, DBL is organizing a ghost bike dedication at the crash site (W38th Ave & Tejon St) on Saturday, 8/2, at 11 AM. Please join us, especially if you are a community member in District 1 (Denver, CO), & share w/your neighbors. 🤍🚲🤍🥀❤️🥀

#Denver again in the Top 10 (at #6) of most-polluted cities in the U.S. But it doesn't have to be this way. We have plans, a Climate Protection Fund, policies. What do we need? Courageous political leaders.

The message I hear whenever I approach one...

[Remember to "push it forward," friends, for the next person who needs to cross the street.]

Are you in Denver? This sounds very familiar to what happens at our middle school. Last fall, a parent driver hit a student biking to school. Motornormativity is also very real among parents/caregivers, schools staff, city officials & police, influencing the lack of urgency+enforcement.

Inspired by a proposed Denver ordinance to regulate shared scooter/e-bike companies, I'm drafting one for automobile rental companies. What am I missing? Learn more here: denver.legistar.com/LegislationD...

It isn't only about no longer expanding highways, @govofco.bsky.social, it is also about repairing the HARM to human connection, public health & access for all.

What a missed opportunity to show transformational leadership by de-centering the private automobile from transportation decision, #CDOT

HB25-1147 protects the most vulnerable Coloradans prosecuted in municipal court by aligning municipal court sentencing w/state courts, guaranteeing access to defense counsel, & ⬆️transparency in municipal courts across CO.
Our state needs these changes *now.*

Who said this? (I wrote it down but can’t remember the author.) “A good [] system minimizes unnecessary transport; and in any event, it offers a change of speed and mode to fit a diversity of human purposes .”

TY. Last week, Sammy (15 years old) was killed at W52nd & Federal. In January, a middle schooler was hit at W41st. I'm also interested in reporting that looks into the politics of not giving the bus its own lane W20th-W52nd aves in spite of years of data/advocacy showing how unsafe N Federal is.

I introduce to you the best gift I’ve ever gotten: a Jumbo vest/bag I’ll be using to ride my bike to my Safeway supermarket in car-centric Denver.

Denver has money for a public golf course but not for people to wait with dignity at a public bus stop. #WaitingForDignity #EsperandoPorDignidad

Yesterday, we stopped by the Colfax & Winona installation while on a group bike ride w/ @drcog & @denverbicyclelobby folx to highlight the lack of safe, dignified mobility infrastructure on & near CDOT’s Sheridan Blvd.

I felt this in my bones, brain & heart rate today while we rode bikes to highlight unlivable design along Sheridan Blvd in #Denver, our voices drowned by traffic noise right next to North Denver's largest park.
