I am a professor at the Australian National University, studying evolutionary biology... bees, parasites, snakes, you name it. Father and aspiring cellist.
Campaign update. When I ordered 1000 flyers, I thought it was overkill. Ended up running out and re-ordering.

Campaigning at the CSS College forum! It’s really good that they have a regular event like this. There’s even food and drinks! I’m sure we have enough money to do this at every College and bring people together.

Third day of campaigning for ANU Council. Ran out of flyers while visiting the folks in the CASS building. I’ve never been inside and it’s gorgeous. Sadly, ran out of time for the top floor, and I’m now in Sydney. See you next week!

I submitted my nomination to the ANU Council. My goal is to bring a deep knowledge of our university and previous governance experience to our government body. My goals are to hold administration accountable, and to bring the community's voice to the Council. mikheyev.github.io/anu-council-...

The interim report on university governance aligns with what the ANU community has been saying. The government's recommendations for greater transparency and accountability, like publishing meeting minutes and disclosing executive pay, directly reflect what we want.

Last week, over ten years of work came to fruition with a Science paper. We used a novel community genomic approach using museum specimens to find cryptic signs of (likely anthropogenic) declines in Fijian ants. www.science.org/doi/10.1126/...
Genomic signatures indicate biodiversity loss in an endemic island ant fauna
Insect populations have declined worldwide, but the extent and drivers of these declines are debated. Most studies rely on field surveys performed in the past century, leaving gaps in our understandin...
