In its purest form, yes. But recent politics has been all perception. The fact is that a convicted criminal got elected on a platform of settings things right, when things were already right. Manufactured crises and extreme responses. The shut down was being increasingly perceived as Dem’s fault.

For those who might not know. The original is a third century relief showing the Sasanian King of Kings Shapur I with his three defeated Roman enemies: Gordianus III (dead under the horse’s hoof), Valerian (captured: Shapur grabbing his wrist) & Philip the Arab (forced to a treaty; kneeling).

I could never take the movie seriously because somehow I always felt that Alec Guinness & his drawl was miscasted for the role. I always imagine Marc Aurel to have been more of a Peter O’Toole character: shifty, unsure, yet something buried deep down.
