it's very much a "love me as i am" vs "love who i could become" situation

but then...

cleric: makes him question his beliefs about himself, that he's inherently a bad guy; makes or inspires him to be a better man. brings out the protective side of him, for her sake and his friends' sake. she trusts him and he wonders if he even deserves it.

bloodhunter: indulges in his "darker sides" (arguably his worst sides), but it is a relationship built on mutual muscle i mean respect. they bring out the worst in each other but that brings them even closer together.
