Research processes always take into consideration some probability of being incorrect, and that chance usually increases proportionally to how broad a section of reality they attempt to explain. The mind, on the other hand, attempts to fill out every part is doesnt know to make an encompassing truth

The thing is, for someone to believe in the research process they either have faith in the authority of the institution or researcher who poduced or published it; or they know each step of the process and from their perspective it would make logical sense that it should explain a part of reality.

I said belief, not necessarily faith. I, for instance, believe there is a collective reality from which truths that explain its logic can be drawn. In order for someone to adhere to truths backed by research, they have to believe both in a shared reality and in the validity of the research process.

Truth equals belief because we cannot grasp reality in its whole, so we try to logic parts of reality into our belief sytems. For example, "the sun rises every morning" is a truth about reality infered from the repeated collective experience of seeing the sun every day.

I make a big distinction between things that are true and things that are real. True things rely on people believing them to be true, and some widely accepted truths can be false to some. Reality is real regardless of truth, and it can only be explained or observed through perceived truths.
