Funnily enough, just last night I revisited the interview I conducted with Stacey Bendet Eisner (creative director) five years ago. She shared what she loves about the Dead is that they were able to be “both cultish and commercial”

In all likelihood it wasn’t deliberate (at least not in that way) and this is just another instance of me overthinking these things. But in any case I am very excited to dig into this book

And at the risk of connecting everything back to the Dead, the display obviously reminded me of Gilbert Shelton’s “invisible pimp” character from Shakedown Street. I have wondered whether its facelessness (and consequent obfuscation of race/gender) was somehow intentional on Shelton’s part as well
