Not only did he manage to find last-minute solutions to many issues that arose in the process, but he also negotiated the best prices for us and managed to keep us within budget despite the numerous and costly unexpected problems encountered in the process. 6/8

Originally hired as a contractor for the difficult operation of removing the 200 tons of soil from the back garden in order to give us access to the remaining part of the site, Guy has proven to be a key supporter of the project. 5/8

It all started in 2024, when Alexandria developed a keen interest in the project and mobilised some of her classmates from Salesian Secondary College in Pallaskenry to raise funding. After Alex’s untimely passing in April 2024, her whole family continued to support the project… 2/8

As part of our project, Noah has had the key task of extracting and analysing DNA from teeth collected on the human remains found on the site in Huy. His detailed scientific reports on the origins of those remains are crucial to the project.

Noah Gaens’s PhD project focuses on medieval demography and urbanisation in Flanders through a fusion of archaeo-historical perspectives and ancient genome analyses.

Of direct interest to the Sarsfield Homecoming Project, Maarten also recently published a breakthrough study on the frequency of occurrences of misattributed paternity in genealogical genetic research. Maarten joined our team in 2024 along with his PhD student Noah Gaens.

Prof. Larmuseau is a leading expert in the field of genetic genealogy and was notably part of the team who analysed Beethoven’s DNA from hair samples, revealing unknown facts about the composer’s health and ancestry.

Caroline is a top-class forensic anthropologist & everyone in the team has been in awe of her expertise, from her ability to identify the smallest bone fragments found on site to the amount of very valuable information she has drawn from her careful study of the remains we have uncovered so far. /4

Of French nationality, Caroline graduated with a BA in Archaeology from the University of Bourgogne 🇫🇷, a MA and a PhD in Physical & Biological Anthropology from the University of Bordeaux 🇫🇷 and a PhD in Archaeology from the Sacro Cuore Catholic University in Italy 🇮🇹. 2/

We are finally back to Huy to resume the search for the remains of Patrick Sarsfield!

Our plan is to finish exploring the cellar area this week.

And the great news is that our authorisation runs until 31 October 2026 which will (hopefully) save us having to worry about paperwork until full completion of the project! We’ll now organise our next trip as soon as possible in order to resume the search for Patrick Sarsfield. Stay tuned! 2/2
