Author, mom, and all-around badass. She/her
How many books have I read this year?

Nice.

As American as baseball on the Fourth of July.

Our traditions, our culture, our country are worth fighting for. Today, I'm going to enjoy my family and rest. Tomorrow, I'll go back into the fray.

Today, i got a free bike and books, meet an amazing author putting together a women's writer community in my neighborhood, supported my local food bank with a restaurant crawl with my best friend, got margaritas & chimichangas & bibimbap & meatballs, and I got to play with German Shepherd puppies!

I just did my first read-through of my edit notes on Winter's Sting, book two in my series, and I'm crying. Y'all, this book is so good. I'm so proud of it, and it seems like I hit every major beat I wanted.

I can't wait to share this with you.

Check out Book One: Summer's Blood. a.co/d/byOtoO9

This is what happens when you take the fluoride out of the water.

(Just kidding. Kiddo just lost three teeth within three weeks.)

My daughter had her first dance recital today, and I 100% cried the second she stepped on stage, just like I do every time her brother dances. I'm so proud of my kids it hurts.

The best chaperone duties are when we get to go to the beach.

I've been trying to eat better, drink less wine, and generally get healthy. Today's lunch: Dino kale, rainbow chard, arugula, pea shoot microgreens, leftover lemon garlic shrimp, and Caesar dressing made a salad as big as my head. Oh my goodness, it was so good!

I had a great night. Then came the crash. My entire closet broke.

Speaking of writing: I have books out. If you're looking for a sapphic urban fantasy, check out Summer's Blood, about a half human-fairy bartender tracking down the killer hunting her patrons and running afoul of the fairy court of Atlanta.

This was my view at my anniversary dinner last week. And I got to attend the ballet this weekend with my son.

I live in such a glorious city. Minutes from downtown and all the culture that offers, country delights from my neighborhood (microgreens, eggs, asparagus), and living by water. I love it

As is my lavender and thyme.

I swear, I actually live in a major city. On the water even. Seattle is a very special place.

My neighbor's rooster is reminding me to pick up my produce co-op box today. I get farm fresh eggs this week! And fresh strawberries. Though my own strawberries are coming in nicely.

I mean, just look at all these friends that came out to say hi. They had a LOT to say. Mostly coo coo cooo.

Morning walks with my pup are a slog in the winter. It's dark, it's cold, and it's wet. But when summer arrives, I want to walk until our legs fall off.

Delightful mushroom friends I see on my walk this morning.

My daughter is officially having the best vacation.

When you're the at home mom and it's early release day, you get ALL the kids from school. I've got six today and thankfully I picked up extra goldfish, popcorn, apple juice, and fizzy waters. Because I think a few more are headed my way.

You could infer that I like the book.

Bottom one came from the library. I've had to be so disciplined not to write in it. So my husband bought us both copies so I can write notes, and he won't get annoyed at me ruining a perfectly pristine book. @markcarneyforpm.bsky.social

Took my son to an escape room this afternoon. We escaped the space ship, even if the pilot did not.

Also spending active time with my kids going to the local roller skating rink. Meal planning for the week. And preserving my mental health with an hour of just reading fiction.

Today's book: The Death of Vivek Oji by Akwaeke Emezi.

I can now say my son has worn costumes designed by an Oscar winner! Congrats to Paul Tazewell, who in addition to Wicked, designed the amazing costumes for the Pacific Northwest Ballet's The Sleeping Beauty. (My son played Hop O' My Thumb)

Gorgeous day in Seattle calls for brunch with my favorite girl. And she's leaning into the urban girl on the move aesthetic.

My urban fantasy series has from page one been about building to a revolution and a society based on mutual aid. It might seem like a silly series about fairy bartenders and cocktail magic, but it's really about artificial scarcity and strength through community.

So check it out. a.co/d/byOtoO9
