I love Sundays, because it means I get to watch a new episode of Kaya-chan Isn't Scary! This series has been a fun one to follow so far, and I'm going to state right here and now that I will be continuing to watch Kaya-chan Isn't Scary during the Winter 2026 anime season. It's a nice way for me to chill during my week.

New anime adapts "Galactic Patrol Prisoner Arc" arc of Dragon Ball Super manga

Before I begin, quick rant not about Crunchyroll, but about Wordpress. Why the hell did they change the thing for selecting AM/PM for the time from being a nice colored background behind the one you selected to "oh, we're just gonna lower the transparency of the one you didn't select"?! Personally, I prefer the previous one, as it was much clearer to tell which one you selected.

Okay. There's a lot I want to talk about in regards to this episode. Because holy freaking shit?! This episode. This episode man. I don't even know if I'll even be able to let my thoughts out in a coherent way. That's how much this episode shaked me up. Yeah, I know I should be using "shook" instead of "shaked".

Just like with last week's episode, this week's episode had a sort of multi-story vignette style. Unlike episode 1, however, each vignette has its own title instead of all being under the same title. As a result, this review will focus on each vignette separately. Here we go. Invisible Things Aren't Scary Kaya and her class consistently walk past the same building during their school day, with one of her classmates noticing what she thinks to be a ghost in the window.

This is the rare instance where the romanized form of the name is close enough to the English name to the point where I don't think I need to tag it. Could I choose to tag it? Yes. Will I? No. So consider my writeups of Dead Account a nice break from having to see multiple names in the tags and wondering whether I mistagged or if that's just the romanized form of the Japanese name.

Happy new year! It's so hard to believe that we're in 2026 now. Like, can you believe that at this time last year, this site didn't even exist? Yeah, at this time last year, I was still making posts on my mom's site. The only reason I have posts from this time least year on this site is because of a handy little thing called backdating.

If I had a nickel for every single anime that I've watched during the Fall anime season in any year where the title of the final episode was the same as the name of the series that also had a protagonist with purple hair, I'd have two nickels, which isn't a lot, but it's weird that it happened twice. This was absolutely unintentional, by the way.

The last Sara Aeschliman simulcast writeup before Christmas! And next week's the final Sara Aeschliman simulcast writeup for 2025! It's so hard to believe that we're getting so close to the end of the Fall 2025 anime season, and honestly, I don't think I would have it any other way. The Winter 2026 anime season should have me popping up a bit more, so if you didn't feel content with me only popping up once per week, don't worry!

On December 12th of the year 2025, I turned 21. This holds absolutely no bearing on the post, I just wanted to say that since I also brought it up in my post about the previous episode. Anyway, I've been loving turning on this series and seeing what occurs to the characters as they do their regular day to day things.

I'm listening to Christmas music while working on this post, as my parents have been neglecting to play it themselves, and I want to play Whamageddon! I absolutely did not have to mention this, but I'm just doing so because it's Christmas season and Christmas is cool. :] Anyway, in today's episode, Mizuki gets a stye and has to stay home from work.

Suddenly, me writing down the name of the episode in the episode preview just to be able to provide the name of an episode alongside its number when letting people know that the next episode isn't out yet is a stroke of genius on my part. This isn't the only episode to be hit by this. I can confirm that Spy x Family Season 3 Episode 9 was hit by something like this as well, and I think it's highly likely that this isn't an isolated incident that was contained to these two shows.

Ugh, I'm tired. Like, tired enough to the point of "I can't think up of a good way to lead into this post". Sorry, folks. Maybe next week I'll figure out a good way to lead into the post that completely excuses the fact that I didn't really do anything to lead into this post except for this. I'm going to be honest, when I read the title for the first time, my mind jumped to the song Last Surprise from Persona 5. I haven't even played any of the Persona games, I only know the song because of the internet. Yes, I'm fully aware that this series wouldn't go anywhere near Persona territory. But that's just the connection my brain made!

Please watch episodes 1 through 5 of A Mangaka's Weirdly Wonderful Workplace before proceeding to read this writeup. Yeah, I know it's weird to see me utilize one of those little boxes again, but in my defense, I purposefully didn't reveal something that happened in Episode 5, so I'd have to add that to this post regardless of whether I wanted to or not.

If there's one thing that you may be wondering while watching this show (assuming you're someone who only follows the story through the anime), I'm sure it's probably nothing along the lines of "someone else is gonna pop up in this house, aren't they?"...what do you mean nobody asked me what I thought you were thinking about? Ugh, this is why we can't have nice things...

Before I get into the writeup I typically do, I just wonder: how similar is the mangaka process to the graphic novelist process? Someone correct me if I'm incorrect, but I believe that in some instances, graphic novels get serialized in the same way as manga does. Is it just Japan that has the magazines that include chapters of many different series as part of serialization, or does the US have an equivalent to that for its comic series?

I would've watched this yesterday, but with non-emergency family stuff that occurred that day where I wasn't told when we were going to head out until basically the day before (with me feeling like the time would've caused the quality of this writeup to suffer in the process), I had to quickly do stuff to make it clear this post was going to be delayed.
