each type of publishing comes with its pros and cons, but as someone who has devoted her life to editing, I think it’s always worth this extra step to make sure your book is the best it can be!

but just because you choose not to work with a publishing house doesn’t mean you can’t work with editors. developmental editors, copyeditors, and proofreaders can help ensure the highest level of polish and are an integral step of the publishing process.

while some of these “errors” may be intentional preferences (I have definitely stetted many commas in my day), some, like misplaced modifiers, stacks, and printing in the gutter, are things an editor would likely query, if not outright suggest fixing.
