This is very obviously going to be a protection racket, where Trump can at the stroke of a pen destroy or save your business depending on how compliant you are.
Exempting USMCA-compliant auto imports from tariffs would lessen the impact of Trump's trade war, sparing ~$122B in imports (~$170B if parts are exempted)

But it just highlights the ridiculousness of this whole endeavor—why exempt cars but not oil, tomatoes, computers, etc etc?

So - I've actually led Ebola outbreak response at USAID.

This is bunk from Elon. They have laid off most of the experts, they're bankrupting most of the partner orgs, have withdrawn from WHO, and muzzled CDC.

What's left is a fig-leaf effort to cover their asses politically.

In case you needed a clear example of the level of care they’re (not) taking in slashing government programs, I present to you the “accidental”cancellation of Ebola prevention efforts. Yes, the virus with the average fatality rate of 50%. I think both sides of the aisle can agree that Ebola is bad.
